Wire Nails

Wire nails are mostly used for very rough and heavy duty woodwork. Manufacture of these nails starts with a coil of wire which is fed into a machine that cuts it into predetermined lengths.

Once the wire is cut, the machine creates the nail’s head and point after which it falls into a holding bin.

The manufacturing process leaves behind gripper marks, on the nail’s shank, just below its head and actually serves the purpose of providing extra grip, thus preventing the nails from pulling out of the wood.

Wire nails can be used for general purpose fixing as well as the construction of roof trusses and pallets.

Important information

Wire nails are not very attractive, therefore won’t be used for any finishing or delicate work. They also have the tendency to split the wood they are hammered into, so don’t try to use them on hardwood.
